Rafael moved to Dumont, New Jersey in 1994. Born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and of Cuban-American descent, he graduated from Johnson and Wales University (in Providence, RI in 1985) with a B.S. in Hotel Management. Since graduating, Rafael has worked in numerous hotels in New York including The Barbizon, The Algonquin, and The New York Helmsley where he was the Director of Food and Beverage.

Rafael was assistant coach for baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer teams. He has also been involved in the Zoning Board since 2006 and is a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. Rafael and his wife Bernadette have been married for 17 years. He has two children – Daniel who attends Dumont High School and Lauren who attends Grant School.
