August 2007
As summer comes to a close, great things are happening in the Borough of Dumont.
Memorial Park will soon have a new active walkway for all of our residents to enjoy. Pershing Street’s upgrade will soon be concluded with the installation of new sidewalks, curbing, and speed bumps. These two important projects will be concluded for Dumont Day, which will be held on September 8th.
The Borough has also made significant headway with its internal finances. In July, we asked and were granted release from the State of New Jersey’s oversight and also received $500,000.00 in extraordinary aid. Over the past three years, Dumont has been able to secure $1.6 million in discretionary aid. However, the Borough remains committed to ensuring that your tax dollars are accounted for and spent appropriately.
Coming up in the month, the Borough will be addressing and concluding our Master Plan and will limit the construction of “McMansions” and encourage commercial/residential development to revitalize our downtown district. Residents are encouraged to read the Master Plan report, which is available free of charge at the Borough Clerk’s office.
Lastly, I urge all of our non-profit and volunteer organizations to use the Dumont Dispatch to communicate vital information related to their success. The Dumont Dispatch is a phenomenal resource that has emerged in our community and is at your disposal. Enjoy the remaining days of summer, and I look forward to seeing you at Dumont Day.
